latex bug in hard_breaks formatting

I believe that the patch committed on March 11 titled "To let LaTeX typeset lines, use \n instead of \." is too restrictive. Can the replacement be back to the \ character if the hard_breaks option is set? I have lost the ability to allow customers to format poetry and other text that has shortened groups of text.
For example:
p=. This is a short poem that should be centered.Instead of generating something like:
This is a
short poem that
should be centered.
It generates:
This is a short poem that should be centered.

- Milestone cleared.
This one didn't get taken care of before the 4.2 release so dropping from the milestone. I'll leave it to Bil to make the decision as to whether to reverse the March 11 change.
