Ignore space characters between blocks

Reported by Jason Garber | March 9th, 2009 @ 02:57 PM

If you have

h2. A header

and a paragraph

but there's a space on that blank line, it will fail to recognize and you'll scratch your head for hours.

I am working on some modifications to acts_as_textilized, which lets you output a plaintext version by stripping tags. I'm not sure whether it's an issue with this commit or somewhere else in history, but as of right now:

    > RedCloth.new("Test\n\nTest").to_html
    <p>Test</p>\n<p>Test</p>

Which is problematic because after stripping tags you get:

    Test
    Test

Even though the intent (and original text) is:

    Test

    Test

I'm slow to fix things with RedCloth these days because it seems better use of my time to work on the new version. If you're doing some custom thing and need the extra line break, I suggest you gsub

\n with \n\n. Maybe that won't work in all situations. I can tell you right now, though, that it would be very hard to work into the current Ragel version of RedCloth. Once I get it rewritten in something better, it will be much easier. Thanks!
